Japanese summer programs for middle schoolers debut in Kyoto and Tokyo

Rohm Theater Kyoto is revamping its ‘Theater School’ program for students aged 12‑18, introducing two new courses for the 2026 season. The ‘Deep Dive into Drama’ course will be led by director Takashi Murakawa, while the ‘New Expression Challenge’ course features dancer‑choreographer Neji and artist Tsuda Michiko. A complementary stage‑staff workshop will also be offered. Sessions run from July 27 to August 22, 2026, at the theater’s North and South Halls.

Kawai Juku’s group, Kawai‑Juku Gakuen, will run a residential “Marutto Exploratory Tour 2026 Summer” for middle‑school 1st‑3rd graders. Two themed trips are planned: a Music & Entertainment tour in Tokyo (July 17‑19) that includes visits to a recording studio and short‑video production, and a Food Science tour in the Keihanna science region (August 24‑26) that explores the science of taste at Nara Institute of Science and Technology and traditional Japanese food culture. Both programs last two nights and three days, cost ¥88,800 per participant, and aim to develop inquiry‑driven learning and creativity.
