Japanese towns launch summer science and farm programs for children

In Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture, the Koriyama Ishiketsu Farm Experience Center is running a day‑long summer program for children. Activities include an animal‑themed quiz, a special tour of the dairy barn, a water‑play session with the city mascot “Gakutoku‑kun,” and a balloon‑rocket workshop provided by a local engineering company.

Meanwhile, Saga City’s Starry Sky Learning Center is offering a series of astronomy and science events from July through September. Highlights feature a Tanabata festival with fan‑making and planet observations, meteor‑shower viewings, insect‑spotting sessions, origami‑airplane workshops, and a moon‑viewing night with traditional music. Both initiatives aim to provide educational, hands‑on experiences for families during the Japanese summer break.
