Japan's T2 Raises ¥5 billion to Launch Level‑4 Autonomous Truck Service

Startup T2, which develops autonomous‑driving systems, announced a Series B first close that raised roughly ¥5 billion (≈ $30 million). The equity issuance brings total capital to over ¥16.5 billion and includes investors such as MOL PLUS, Sumitomo Warehouse, Fuji Trans, and others. T2 is using the funds to accelerate development of level‑4 self‑driving trucks and to prepare a long‑haul logistics service slated to begin after 2027. The company has already operated level‑2 autonomous trucks commercially since 2025, serving 23 corporate customers and operating “transgate” hubs that switch between driver‑less and manned operation.

On 15 July, T2, Tokyu Real Estate and the city of Tosu signed a basic agreement to install level‑4 autonomous trucks at the Southern Tosu Cross Park industrial zone. The partnership, the first nationwide public‑private framework for driverless trucks, will create a logistics hub linked to nearby highway interchanges. Construction is planned for 2027‑2030, with the aim of making the park a next‑generation industrial cluster and launching level‑4 truck services around 2027. Tokyu will develop the logistics facilities needed for the autonomous fleet, while Tosu will support permitting and community outreach.
