In July 2026, Japanese startup T2 announced a Series B financing round that raised about ¥5 billion, bringing its total capital to over ¥16.5 billion. The funding, sourced from investors such as MOL PLUS, Sumitomo Warehouse and Fuji Trans, is earmarked for accelerating the development of level‑4 driverless trucks and for launching a long‑haul logistics service after 2027. T2 also secured a public‑private partnership with Tokyu Real Estate and the city of Tosu to install level‑4 trucks at the Southern Tosu Cross Park industrial zone, with construction slated for 2027‑2030.

A week later, T2 demonstrated a 680‑km logistics trial that combined conventional trucks for the first 120 km with its level‑2 autonomous trucks for the remaining 560 km, moving a cleaning solution between Ibaraki and Hyogo. The trial is intended to pave the way for future level‑4 operations that could double haul capacity on the Kanto‑Kansai corridor. In parallel, Toray Industries began using T2’s level‑2 trucks for petrochemical transport between Chiba and Osaka, citing driver‑shortage relief and up to a 40 % reduction in CO₂ emissions.
