Jarosław Kaczyński questioned for nine hours in Warsaw prosecutor’s office

Law and Justice leader Jarosław Kaczyński appeared as a witness before the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office in a probe into the “two towers” case, which concerns a cancelled skyscraper project by the Srebrna company and Austrian businessman Gerald Birgfellner. The interrogation lasted from about 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., covering roughly nine hours. Prosecutor Piotr Skiba said the hearing proceeded in a “good atmosphere,” noting only minor “snags” that did not affect its course. Kaczyński was reminded of his right to refuse to answer questions but did not invoke that right, stating, “Świadek był pouczony o możliwości ... nie skorzystał ani razu z tego uprawnienia.”

Two of Kaczyński’s lawyers were present, as were representatives of the alleged victim, including MP Roman Giertych and lawyer Jacek Dubois. Giertych left the premises around 2 p.m. After the session, Kaczyński criticised Giertych’s participation, saying, “On nie powinien być pełnomocnikiem,” and argued that the representative’s political affiliation made his involvement inappropriate. No further procedural steps have been announced at this stage.
