Poland's ruling PiS plans major July convention as polls show tight race

The Law and Justice party (PiS) announced a large convention for 5 July in Kłodzko, a town that recently drew media attention due to a high‑profile criminal case. At the event, party leader Jarosław Kaczyński and Education Minister Przemysław Czarnek intend to unveil the fourth point of Czarnek’s “Plan”, which will focus on holding the current government accountable and publishing a list of alleged scandals.

Recent opinion polls commissioned by IBRiS for Polsat News show the opposition Civic Coalition (KO) leading with 28 % of declared voters, PiS at 24.1 % and the right‑wing Confederation at 13.7 %. The poll also notes that KO’s support has slipped slightly from early June, while PiS and Confederation have gained ground. Voter turnout is projected at about 63 %, with higher participation expected among older voters.

The PiS convention is expected to highlight the party’s accountability agenda, including proposals such as raising the second PIT tax bracket and possibly establishing a special court or public trust commission to investigate past government actions.
