Jarosław Kaczyński's leadership future and PiS programme debated in Poland

Analysts say Jarosław Kaczyński faces a precarious position within his party Law and Justice (PiS). Professor Rafał Chwedoruk notes that while Kaczyński still controls party mechanisms, a loss in the 2027 election could force a leadership shake‑up, possibly leading to internal factional clashes. At a meeting in Kalisz, PiS presented 21 election points, including a tax‑threshold raise, a "Silver Work" scheme exempting senior workers from PIT and social‑security contributions, and an exit from the EU Emissions Trading System. Economists such as Prof. Witold Orłowski dismissed the proposals as "pure propaganda" and warned they would strain public finances. Critics across the political spectrum label the programme populist and financially unrealistic.
