Jasna Góra hosts exhibition of historic 1956 National Vows document

The historical document ‘Odnowienie Ślubów Narodu na Jasnej Górze 1956 RP’ is currently on display at the St. Roch Bastion in Jasna Góra. The manuscript, part of an exhibition dedicated to Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński, will be available to the public for one month.

The document contains the text of the Jasna Góra Vows of the Nation, which were recited on August 26, 1956, by Bishop Michał Klepacz. At the time, Klepacz was acting as the head of the Polish Episcopate while Cardinal Wyszyński was interned in Komańcza. The ceremony took place on the 300th anniversary of the vows made by King John II Casimir.

The text, written by Wyszyński, includes calls for justice, peace, the protection of life, and care for the hungry and homeless, while addressing national vices such as laziness and wastefulness. The original book, featuring calligraphed text on parchment, was prepared quickly and in secret at Jasna Góra.
