70th anniversary of Jasna Góra Nation's Vows

The Catholic Church in Poland is observing the 70th anniversary of the Jasna Góra Nation's Vows, originally taken on August 26, 1956. To mark the occasion, Metropolitan Archbishop Adam Szal has organized a series of liturgical celebrations scheduled for late August 2026 across various parishes and cathedrals.

As part of the commemorations, an exhibition at the St. Roch Bastion in Jasna Góra features the original manuscript of the vows, ‘Odnowienie Ślubów Narodu na Jasnej Górze 1956 RP’. The calligraphed parchment document was prepared in secret at Jasna Góra and written by Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński while he was imprisoned in Komańcza. The manuscript, which is available to the public for one month, contains the text recited by Bishop Michał Klepacz during the 1956 ceremony. The text addresses themes of faith, social justice, peace, and the protection of life.

On August 26, 2026, commemorative events were also held in Komańcza to mark the anniversary of the Cardinal preparing the text during his internment at the Congregation of the Sisters of Nazareth. The local observance included a field Mass led by Bishop Marian Buczek at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński Primary School. The event concluded with a concert titled ‘Faith, Hope and Love’ performed by the Artur Maławski Philharmonic Orchestra, which included a dramatic portrayal of the Primate by Maciej Słota.
