Junín earthquake relief air bridge launched as Peru rolls out multi‑billion‑dollar investment plan

The Ministry of Transport and Communications activated an air bridge at the Francisco Carlé Airport in Jauja to move food, water, medicine, equipment and emergency personnel to the victims of the magnitude‑6.0 earthquake that struck the Chupaca province in Junín. The President of the Council of Ministers, Luis Enrique Arroyo Sánchez, and Defence Minister Amadeo Flores Carcagno arrived at the airport and coordinated the response with regional authorities.

At the same time, the private‑investment promotion agency PROINVERSIÓN presented a nationwide portfolio of 87 public‑private partnership (PPP) projects and 7 addenda valued at over USD 41 billion, as well as 694 tax‑credit (Obras por Impuestos) interventions worth S/ 19.6 billion, aimed at closing infrastructure gaps across the country. The agency also unveiled the “Corredor Norte” strategy, grouping 32 PPPs and 4 asset projects worth more than USD 15 billion to boost connectivity in the north and Amazon regions.

Separately, the government disclosed a budget increase for the twin tunnels on the Arequipa‑La Joya highway, raising the estimate from S/ 113 million to S/ 220 million. The project, financed through the tax‑credit mechanism, will feature five lanes and is slated for 570 days of construction.
