Peru expands infrastructure investment amid mining growth

Overview

Peru’s mining sector kept delivering strong fiscal results in early 2026, with revenues above S/15 bn and royalties of S/4.121 bn funding public projects and supporting more than 278 000 direct jobs. The pipeline now comprises 66 projects worth over US$64 bn, and the 27th World Mining Congress highlighted energy‑saving compressors and an AI‑driven monitoring platform. The public‑private Obras por Impuestos mechanism was broadened, launching a S/979 mn portfolio of 40 projects in the Lima Region and a national portfolio of 694 projects valued at S/19.593 bn to boost resilience ahead of the El Niño season. In July, Peru hosted its first International Forum on Uranium and Lithium, underscoring the minerals’ role in energy security and smart‑city initiatives. Construction began on the new Superintendencia del Mercado de Valores headquarters in Miraflores, a S/100.8 mn, 15,776 m² building financed through Obras por Impuestos and slated for completion in 675 days. On 19 July, Congress approved Law 32732, authorising up to S/1.26 bn of sovereign bonds and a supplementary credit of S/4.16 bn to fund public‑investment projects, reconstruction and other activities, including bonuses for university teachers and military personnel. Following the magnitude‑6.0 earthquake in Junín on 20 July, the Ministry of Transport and Communications opened an air bridge at Francisco Carlé Airport to deliver relief supplies. Simultaneously, PROINVERSIÓN unveiled a nationwide PPP portfolio of 87 projects and seven addenda valued at over US$41 bn, plus 694 tax‑credit interventions worth S/19.6 bn. The “Corredor Norte” strategy groups 32 PPPs and four asset projects worth more than US$15 bn to improve connectivity in the north and Amazon regions, and the Arequipa‑La Joya tunnel budget was raised to S/220 mn.
