Javier Bardem supports petition to remove P!nk as UNICEF ambassador
Actor Javier Bardem has publicly endorsed a Change.org petition calling for the removal of singer P!nk from her role as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. The petition, which has gathered over 188,000 signatures, argues that the singer’s recent social media activity is “incompatible with the role of a UNICEF Ambassador” and violates the neutrality expected of the position.
The controversy stems from P!nk’s reaction to a performance by rapper Macklemore during Ed Sheeran’s tour at MetLife Stadium. During his set, Macklemore delivered pro-Palestinian messages and chanted “Free Palestine.” In response, P!nk shared a post from the group StopAntisemitism, which characterized the performance as “anti-Israel propaganda.”
P!nk has since addressed the backlash, stating that a “repost isn’t a statement” and that she does not necessarily agree with all the language used in the shared post. She emphasized that she does not wish to silence other artists and has been a UNICEF ambassador since 2015. Bardem’s involvement has intensified the debate regarding the ethical responsibilities and political neutrality of celebrity ambassadors for international humanitarian organizations.
