Controversy over Pink’s UNICEF Ambassador status

The controversy regarding singer Pink’s role as a UNICEF Ambassador has intensified following public support from Spanish actor Javier Bardem for a petition seeking her removal. The petition, which has now grown to over 188,000 signatures, contends that Pink’s social media activity is ‘incompatible with the role of a UNICEF Ambassador’ and undermines the organization’s commitment to neutrality.

The dispute originated from Pink’s reaction to a pro-Palestinian performance by rapper Macklemore at MetLife Stadium. While Pink previously clarified that the performance made her feel ‘unsafe for herself and her loved ones’ and maintained that ‘Palestinians deserve a future,’ critics argue her reposting of advocacy content—specifically from the group StopAntisemitism, which characterized the performance as ‘anti-Israel propaganda’—undermines the impartiality expected of her position.

Bardem’s decision to promote the petition has drawn its own backlash. Comedian Michael Rapaport criticized the actor, accusing him of bullying for using a petition rather than addressing the singer directly. In response to the escalating pressure, Pink has defended her actions, stating her reposts were not intended as formal political statements and emphasizing that she does not speak on behalf of any government. She has further clarified that a ‘repost isn’t a statement’ and that she does not necessarily agree with all the language used in the shared post. As of the latest reports, UNICEF has not announced any changes to her status.
