Javier Milei visits New York for UN General Assembly and bilateral talks
Argentine President Javier Milei is conducting an intensive diplomatic and economic mission in New York during the 81st United Nations General Assembly. A central component of his visit is a scheduled speech before the UN General Assembly, where he is expected to reiterate Argentina's sovereignty claim over the Falkland Islands, criticize the bureaucracy of international organizations, and oppose new regulations regarding Artificial Intelligence.
In addition to his UN address, Milei has engaged in high-level bilateral meetings, including a session with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in energy, critical minerals, and agriculture. This diplomatic alignment coincides with discussions regarding a potential USD 7 billion financing agreement for infrastructure and energy projects through 2027. A significant portion of this, approximately USD 6 billion, is linked to the YPF liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, which may involve support from the U.S. Exim Bank and partners from Italy and the United Arab Emirates.
Milei's agenda also includes economic forums with the International Republican Institute and the Americas Society, as well as a presentation at The Economic Club of New York, aimed at attracting foreign investment and promoting economic freedom.
