Santiago Abascal urges permanent militarization of Ceuta border amid migration crisis
Vox leader Santiago Abascal demanded the permanent militarisation of the Ceuta‑Morocco border, calling the recent influx of migrants an "invasion" and a "war act" promoted by Morocco and tolerated by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. He claimed that around 65,000 people entered the city, that the episode has caused almost a hundred deaths and left thousands of Spaniards terrified, and he urged the closure of the crossing until Morocco provides guarantees.
Abascal also called for the European Union to suspend its preferential agreement with Morocco and to provide legal, material and legislative support so that the Spanish armed forces, police and Guardia Civil can defend the frontier. Argentine President Javier Milei echoed the criticism of Sánchez, saying the crisis shows the failure of the socialist model and that “the end of socialism is near”. The EU Commission has pledged assistance, including the possible deployment of Frontex, to help Spain manage the situation.
