Javier Milei defends Sturzenegger amid legislative setbacks

The administration of President Javier Milei is facing political and legislative challenges following recent setbacks in the Senate. While Milei has expressed support for Minister of Deregulation Federico Sturzenegger, describing him as a ‘key figure,’ the government’s deregulatory agenda has encountered resistance. Recent legislative efforts regarding land laws and fire management were weakened after officialist block leaders opted to remove certain controversial chapters.

In the Chamber of Deputies, the government is attempting to regain momentum by prioritizing two economic projects: one aimed at encouraging citizens to move US dollars out of savings and another to limit the functions of the Central Bank.

Political analysts and economists have noted increasing internal friction within the La Libertad Avanza movement, citing contradictions between the President and Vice President, as well as growing uncertainty among investors. Some observers suggest that the loss of electoral consensus and legislative defeats may begin to impact the broader economy.
