Javier Milei faces criticism over Argentina's economic crisis

Argentine President Javier Milei faces intensifying criticism from political figures and former allies regarding his administration's economic policies and personal conduct.

Fernando Espinoza, Mayor of La Matanza and President of the Argentine Federation of Municipalities, condemned the economic situation, stating that Milei’s adjustment policies have caused job losses and significant increases in the cost of living. Espinoza noted that essential services like electricity, water, and gas have risen by 600%, while transport costs have increased by 380%. He highlighted that approximately 21 million people have incurred debt, with 5 million unable to make payments.

Former ally and national deputy Marcela Pagano has also broken with the administration, labeling Milei an “econochanta” (economic fraudster). She accused the government of masking the deficit by diverting funds intended for provincial road repairs and alleged the discretionary use of resources to influence legislative votes.

Additionally, Vice President Victoria Villarruel has expressed deep concern regarding the President’s mental state and his tendency to repeat “insanities and inventions,” marking a visible rift within the government leadership.
