Argentina governors and Milei discuss electoral reform after Paris trip

Following the Argentina Week in Paris, President Javier Milei and a delegation of provincial governors have engaged in strategic discussions regarding electoral reform and economic stability. The national government is actively seeking political support in Congress to advance a reform package that includes the elimination of the PASO primary system.

While some governors, such as Alfredo Cornejo of Mendoza, expressed support for maintaining the current economic reform trajectory to ensure market certainty, others remain cautious. Jorge Macri, the Chief of Government of Buenos Aires, has distanced himself from the immediate electoral agenda, proposing that any changes to the PASO system should not be implemented until the 2031 elections. He also urged the Congress to prioritize the 'Ficha Limpia' law.

In the economic sphere, the mission in France successfully promoted investment opportunities, with TotalEnergies confirming significant gas production investments. Meanwhile, Economy Minister Luis Caputo addressed potential economic safeguards, noting that USD 75 billion could be available to manage currency volatility ahead of the 2027 elections.
