Mauricio Macri calls for teamwork with Javier Milei amid governor divisions

Mauricio Macri has re-emerged in the Argentine political scene, signaling a push for greater coordination with President Javier Milei. During a visit to Jujuy, Macri praised Milei for achieving unprecedented fiscal results with speed and audacity. While emphasizing the PRO party’s strong support for the current administration, Macri also called for improved teamwork and a focus on bringing inflation down to single digits.

Simultaneously, the 2027 electoral landscape is causing friction among provincial governors. Debates are intensifying over the 2027 Budget and proposed electoral reforms, specifically the potential elimination of the PASO primary system. Governors hold diverse views: Jorge Macri (CABA) and Alfredo Cornejo (Mendoza) support maintaining primaries, while Juan Pablo Valdés (Corrientes) and Leandro Zdero (Chaco) view them as an unnecessary expense. Some governors are even discussing the formation of a third political position to bridge the gap between Milei’s administration and Peronism.

In other sectors, the Peronist party is addressing economic concerns, such as a reported $4 billion deficit in tourism, while the UCR in Neuquén and Chaco is organizing to build opposition alternatives ahead of future elections.
