Jaworzno’s “Polish Maldives” Dry Up as Water Levels Drop
The artificial reservoirs in Park Gródek, Jaworzno – popularly called the “Polish Maldives” – have seen a sharp decline in water level, exposing a stone‑covered bottom where turquoise water once shimmered. Reports note that the water level naturally fluctuates with groundwater, rainfall and meltwater, and recent dry conditions have left the former dolomite quarry’s basins almost dry. City officials, including Dr Agnieszka Chećko, said no intervention is planned, as the variability is inherent to the reclaimed mining pits. Despite the change, the park remains a major regional attraction, offering walking trails, viewpoints and remnants of its industrial past, such as submerged excavators. Visitors continue to come, though the iconic wooden walkways now overlook dry or shallow water instead of the former lagoon‑like scenery.
