Jay-Z praises Ye's creativity in HBO docuseries

In the sixth episode of the HBO docuseries ‘JAY-Z in 8’, rapper Jay-Z describes his former collaborator Ye as ‘one of the most brilliant creatives we’re ever going to see’. Directed by Rick Rubin, the eight-part series uses songs from Jay-Z’s catalog to explore his life and career.

The discussion occurs while reviewing the track ‘Jail’ from the album ‘Donda’. Rubin compares the isolation Ye experienced following his turn toward extremism to a sense of confinement. Jay-Z reflected on their personal bond, noting that despite their complicated relationship and changing paths, Ye has maintained a sense of reverence for him as a big brother.

The black-and-white series, which features 27 songs, is scheduled to release new episodes weekly through October 9. Executive producers include Shawn Carter, Rick Rubin, and Daniel Kaluuya.
