Aris Sanda killed in Papua Pegunungan after vehicle intercepted
Aris Sanda, a driver who had worked the Wamena-Mbua route for 13 years, was killed in Jayawijaya, Papua Pegunungan, after his vehicle was intercepted by an armed group. His body and vehicle were later found burned near Lake Habema.
The TPNPB-OPM Kodap III Ndugama group claimed responsibility for the shooting, alleging that Sanda was a government military intelligence agent. However, police officials from Satgas Operasi Damai Cartenz have dismissed these claims as hoaxes, asserting that Sanda was a civilian driver.
Investigators recovered a 5.56 mm caliber ammunition shell at the scene. Following the incident, the TPNPB issued an ultimatum to migrant workers, including taxi and motorcycle drivers, to cease operations on several transport routes, including Wamena-Nduga and Wamena-Jayapura. Local residents expressed deep grief, noting that Sanda provided essential transport services for food and community members in the region.
