Jayawijaya Agriculture officials killed in armed group shooting

Three employees of the Jayawijaya Agriculture Office were killed in a shooting by an armed criminal group (KKB) in Muliama District, Papua Pegunungan, on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. The victims, who were performing public service duties, included a veterinarian, the Head of Livestock, and another agriculture official.

Koops TNI Habema has deployed personnel to pursue the perpetrators and is coordinating with relevant authorities to ensure legal enforcement. The Army Chief of Staff, General Maruli Simanjuntak, clarified that the victims were civilian government employees and not military intelligence.

Political leaders and human rights organizations have condemned the attack. The Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI, Habiburokhman, and Vice Chairman Ahmad Sahroni called the act a barbaric crime, urging security forces to capture the perpetrators and investigate weapon suppliers. The Head of Komnas HAM Papua, Frits Ramandey, described the incident as inhumane, noting that the victims were reportedly stopped and ordered to disembark from their vehicle before being shot.
