JB Financial Group invests 40 billion won in AI firm Upstage
JB Financial Group has expanded its technological and geographic footprint through significant new investments. Three of its affiliates—Jeonbuk Bank, Kwangju Bank, and JB Woori Capital—invested a total of 40 billion won in the artificial intelligence company Upstage during its C-2 funding round. This investment secures approximately a 2% stake in Upstage.
The partnership follows a previous memorandum of understanding aimed at developing AI agents specifically for financial services. JB Financial plans to utilize Upstage’s technology to automate repetitive tasks, such as document processing and corporate credit reviews, to enhance operational efficiency.
In addition to its AI initiatives, JB Financial is expanding its international presence. JB Woori Capital has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of the shares of Kyrgyzstani financial firms Korkukredit and Korkuirising. Once local regulatory approvals are finalized, this acquisition will establish the group’s fifth overseas base, following existing operations in Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
