JBS announces Wesley Batista Filho as future global CEO
Wesley Batista Filho, the 34-year-old son of one of JBS's founders, is set to become the global CEO of the Brazilian meat processing giant in January 2027. He will succeed Gilberto Tomazoni, who has led the company since 2018. Tomazoni will transition into roles as vice-chairman of the board and senior advisor, while maintaining his position as chairman of Pilgrim’s Pride.
Batista Filho, the current CEO of JBS USA, has held various leadership positions within the company for 15 years, including roles in the Brazilian beef and poultry sectors. His appointment signals a return of the founding Batista family to operational leadership following a period of withdrawal after previous corruption scandals.
Financial institutions, including Bank of America, Bradesco, BTG Pactual, and Citi, have largely viewed the succession as a planned transition that emphasizes strategic continuity rather than a radical change in direction. Batista Filho has indicated plans to expand JBS's presence in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Oceania, while diversifying the product portfolio into higher-value goods, eggs, and fish.
