JD Vance endorses Ken Paxton and announces Texas refinery expansion

During a campaign rally in Tyler, Texas, Vice President JD Vance endorsed Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton and announced that the Trump administration is invoking the Defense Production Act to expand the Delek refinery. The expansion is intended to increase the production of millions of gallons of commercial and military-specification fuel, which Vance stated would create hundreds of jobs in Smith County and help lower fuel costs.

Independent estimates suggest the refinery expansion could cost between $100 million and $200 million. The Delek facility currently processes approximately 74,000 barrels of oil per day.

Vance also faced criticism for remarks made during the rally regarding Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico. Vance made comments that appeared to question Talarico's sexuality and suggested his internet search history might be questionable, citing Talarico's progressive stances on gender and transgender issues. Additionally, Vance expressed optimism that Republicans could maintain control of Congress in the upcoming midterm elections despite historical trends.
