Vice President JD Vance has faced scrutiny regarding his comments on the cost of living during Republican National Committee (RNC) fundraising efforts. In a fundraising text, Vance told supporters, ‘If you can’t give right now, don’t. Groceries cost what they cost.’

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) responded by alleging that the Trump-Vance administration has overseen significant increases in grocery prices, claiming households have spent over $3,500 more on staples like beef, coffee, and produce since the administration took office.

As the 2026 midterm elections approach, Vance’s campaigning has drawn further political friction. In Michigan, Vance criticized Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed regarding previous remarks on Sharia law, leading to a response from El-Sayed concerning the Vice President’s family. In Maine, Democratic Senate nominee Troy Jackson labeled Vance a ‘dirtbag’ after the Vice President downplayed a fatal shooting involving an ICE agent.

Additionally, Vance’s RNC fundraising efforts in Wyoming have encountered local protests concerning the national deficit and economic inequality. The political discourse has also expanded to include personal topics, with Usha Vance addressing criticisms regarding their family and her husband’s social media habits.
