Jeddah Tower rises past 420 m, on track for 1‑km record in Saudi Arabia

Construction of the Jeddah Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia has reached more than 420 metres, adding six floors to bring the count to 106 of the planned 160. The skyscraper, designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, aims to become the world’s first building to exceed the one‑kilometre height barrier and to dethrone Dubai’s Burj Khalifa as the tallest structure.

The project, launched in 2013, was halted for several years before work resumed in 2024. Engineers are employing advanced concrete‑pumping, prefabrication and high‑rise façade technologies to keep the pace. Completion is scheduled for 2028, with the tower expected to house residential, office and mixed‑use spaces, including a panoramic terrace above 640 m.
