Jeep reintroduces Cherokee nameplate with 2026 hybrid model

Jeep is reintroducing the Cherokee nameplate with the 2026 model, marking its return after a three-year hiatus during which the brand focused on the Compass and Grand Cherokee.

The new model features a significant shift in powertrain technology, moving away from previous V6 engines toward a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid system. This setup produces a combined 210 horsepower and 230 lb-ft of torque, with an advertised combined fuel consumption of approximately 6.3 L/100 km.

The update aims to balance Jeep's off-road heritage with modern consumer demands for fuel efficiency and versatility in the compact utility segment. The hybrid system is designed to provide more immediate response by using the electric motor to compensate for the turbocharger's initial torque gaps.
