Jeju 4.3 Peace Forum and Research Symposium to discuss UNESCO heritage

The Jeju 4.3 Peace Foundation is hosting the 16th Jeju 4.3 Peace Forum to discuss the future of the Jeju 4.3 records following their inscription as a UNESCO Memory of the World. The forum aims to explore how to utilize these historical records, share them globally, and foster international solidarity. Key sessions will cover the globalization of the 4.3 history, the use of records in education, and international cooperation regarding human rights and peace, including comparisons with Rwanda’s reconciliation processes.

Additionally, the Jeju 4.3 Research Institute has announced the inaugural Next Generation 4.3 Researcher Forum. This event focuses on passing down 30 years of research achievements to new scholars. Discussions will center on the spatial continuity of state violence in the Jungmun area, local community experiences, changes in the educational environment, and historical traces found in literary works. The initiative seeks to expand the academic discourse surrounding the 4.3 incident from a regional level to a national one.
