Jeju hosts 2026 Social Solidarity Economy Commemoration Week

Jeju Special Self-Governing Province held the 2026 Jeju Social Solidarity Economy Commemoration Week at the Halla Convention Center. The event, themed ‘Connection of Values, Beginning of Solidarity,’ aimed to address regional issues such as employment, childcare, and environmental concerns through social enterprises, cooperatives, and village businesses.

The commemoration follows the recent passage of the ‘Framework Act on Social Solidarity Economy’ in the National Assembly, which consolidates support bases for various social organizations. During the event, several individuals and organizations received commendations from the Governor for their contributions to social value, including companies focused on resource circulation and seed preservation. The Gujwa Village Travel Agency Cooperative received the grand prize for creating local jobs through haenyeo experiences and community-based services.

Jeju has seen its social solidarity economy organizations grow to approximately 700 over the last decade. The province has also been recognized for its leadership in social economy policy, ranking first in a Ministry of Employment and Labor evaluation and being the first in the country to implement a system for measuring and rewarding social value created by these enterprises.
