Environmental and social economy initiatives in Jeju

Jeju Special Self-Governing Province is hosting series of events focused on sustainability and community development.

In early September 2026, the province held the ‘2026 Jeju Social Solidarity Economy Commemoration Week’ at the Halla Convention Center. The event, themed ‘Connection of Values, Beginning of Solidarity,’ focused on addressing regional issues like employment and environmental concerns through social enterprises and cooperatives. This commemoration followed the passage of the ‘Framework Act on Social Solidarity Economy’ and recognized organizations contributing to social value and resource circulation.

Additionally, Jeju is scheduled to host the inaugural ‘2026 Jeju International Environment Forum Week’ from September 9 to 11. Under the theme ‘Era of Transition to Green Civilization, Our Role,’ the forum integrates various environmental discussions, including the climate economy, circular economy, and sustainable forest management. The event is expected to involve international organizations such as the World Bank and the Green Climate Fund.
