Jelgava police detain suspects in Bauska jewelry theft

Latvian State Police have detained suspects involved in an organized jewelry theft in Bauska. The incident, reported on September 10, involved three men stealing jewelry valued at 22,500 euros.

On September 17, officers from the Special Tasks Battalion spotted a Honda vehicle suspected of transporting the suspects on the A8 highway heading toward Jelgava. After refusing to stop, the driver led police on a chase through Jelgava. The pursuit ended when the vehicle reached a dead end, prompting a passenger to flee on foot.

Police detained the driver, a man born in 1992, and a passenger, a man born in 1994, following warning shots fired into the air by the Special Tasks Battalion. On September 18, a court applied pre-trial detention to the individual born in 1994, while the driver was already under existing detention orders. All three suspects involved in the robbery have prior criminal records for similar offenses. A criminal process has been initiated regarding theft by an organized group.
