Jennifer Grey to reprise role in Dirty Dancing sequel

Jennifer Grey will return as Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman in a sequel to the 1987 cult classic Dirty Dancing. The new project, set in the 1990s, will introduce a new generation of characters and a fresh romance.

Producer Nina Jacobson announced at the IndieWire ‘Future of Filmmaking’ event that the production will not use artificial intelligence to digitally reconstruct the late Patrick Swayze. Instead, the filmmakers aim to honor Swayze’s legacy by allowing the audience to experience the emotional weight of his loss.

The sequel is being written by Kim Rosenstock and produced by Jacobson and Brad Simpson. While specific plot details and a release date have not yet been announced, the production intends to capture the emotional depth and social relevance that defined the original film.
