Dirty Dancing sequel production

Overview

Producer Nina Jacobson has confirmed that Jennifer Grey will reprise her role as Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman in a sequel to the 1987 film Dirty Dancing. The new project, written by Kim Rosenstock and produced by Jacobson and Brad Simpson, is set in the 1990s and will introduce a new generation of characters and a fresh romance.

Jacobson announced at the ‘Future of Filmmaking’ event that the production will not use artificial intelligence to digitally reconstruct the late Patrick Swayze. Instead, the filmmakers intend to honor Swayze’s legacy by allowing audiences to experience the emotional weight of his loss. The creative team has worked closely with Swayze’s estate, and his widow, Lisa Niemi Swayze, has reportedly reviewed the script and expressed that she was “very moved by it.”
