Jerez de la Frontera restores historic religious sites

Several religious and architectural heritage sites in Jerez de la Frontera have undergone recent restorations and improvements.

The Capilla de la Antigua, a Baroque temple located within the city's ancient walls near the Puerta del Arroyo, has officially reopened following a recovery effort by the Hermandad del Cristo de la Viga. The chapel, which had been desacralized since the 19th century, was restored with an investment of between 6,000 and 7,000 euros. The reopening included a blessing presided over by Bishop Rico Pavés and the presence of Mayor María José García-Pelayo.

Additionally, the Iglesia de San Miguel has inaugurated a new interior lighting system. Funded by a 130,000 euro subsidy from the Provincial Council and the Diocese of Jerez, the project installed 245 low-consumption light points. This upgrade aims to highlight the church's Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque elements, including its altarpieces and chapels, while reducing energy consumption by an estimated 57%.
