Jermaine Pennant requires 50 stitches after dog attack
Former Premier League footballer Jermaine Pennant required more than 50 stitches following a dog attack in a north London park. The 43-year-old, who previously played for Arsenal and Liverpool, reported that he was walking his American Akita, King, when a German Shepherd attacked his pet.
Pennant attempted to intervene to protect his dog, at which point the German Shepherd turned its aggression toward him. The former winger sustained four bite wounds to his right leg and spent a night in the hospital. He noted that the pressure of the bite was immense and that he may require surgery for a particularly large wound.
Pennant credited his dog, King, with saving him during the incident, stating that the Akita fought the other dog off and stood by his side until help arrived. While Pennant suffered significant injuries, his dog sustained only a minor nip to the leg.
