Jerusalem church leaders condemn West Bank settler attacks

Patriarchs and leaders of the churches in Jerusalem have issued a joint statement condemning recent attacks by extremist Jewish settlers in the occupied West Bank. The religious leaders highlighted a systematic pattern of aggression, particularly targeting local residents during the olive harvest season, which is vital for family livelihoods.

The statement specifically addressed an incident in the predominantly Christian village of Taybeh, where masked settlers attacked residents and a convoy of European diplomats conducting a solidarity visit. The leaders noted that while Israeli President Isaac Herzog and various rabbis have condemned such actions, the perpetrators often continue to act with impunity.

Religious leaders called for decisive and consistent law enforcement action following recent arrests, urging that these measures not be isolated incidents. They also appealed to the international community to ensure the protection of civilian populations in the West Bank and to stand in solidarity with those visiting the region.
