Jes Staley to Testify Before US Congress on Jeffrey Epstein Ties

Former Barclays chief executive Jes Staley, who also previously ran JPMorgan's private‑wealth division, has agreed to appear before the U.S. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee for an in‑person, transcribed interview on July 23. The committee is probing high‑profile individuals about their connections to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein; prior interviews have included Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Bill Gates and others.

Staley, who was banned from a management role in the UK financial sector after a 2023 FCA investigation and fined more than $2 million, is also confronting renewed scrutiny of JPMorgan’s past settlements – $290 million with Epstein victims and $75 million with the U.S. Virgin Islands – and a confidential settlement with the bank over his alleged liability. The testimony is expected to focus on his personal relationship with Epstein and its implications for banking‑sector governance and regulatory oversight.
