Italy pediatric emergencies: choking incident and successful neonatal transfer
Two separate pediatric medical emergencies have occurred in Italy involving critical interventions.
In Jesi, a three-year-old girl is in critical condition at the G. Salesi Pediatric Hospital in Ancona after choking on a grape during a local fair. The incident caused cardiac arrest, requiring immediate resuscitation by bystanders and medical professionals. The child is currently under deep sedation and mechanical ventilation with a reserved prognosis.
In a separate incident, a newborn with a severe heart condition was successfully transferred from Cosenza to the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital in Rome. The transfer was jeopardized by a mechanical failure of the initial ambulance. A coordinated emergency relay involving the STEN service from the Ruggi d’Aragona hospital in Salerno and medical teams from Caserta ensured the infant reached the capital in time for life-saving surgery.
