Ještěd tower inspection reveals water leaks in hotel section

A technical inspection of the Ještěd mountain hotel and transmitter tower in the Liberec Region has revealed structural issues with its exterior cladding. While the upper laminate section of the 94-meter hyperboloid structure remains in good condition with only minor wear, the metal cladding on the lower hotel and restaurant levels is compromised.

Experts found that precipitation water is penetrating the construction and the interior through gaps around windows, covers, ventilation grates, and air conditioning units. Some previous repairs were also damaged by heavy ice falling from the upper parts of the tower.

The Liberec Region, which acquired the national cultural monument this year for approximately 185 million CZK, plans to carry out urgent repairs costing roughly 80,000 CZK (excluding VAT) before winter. These immediate measures will include tightening structural bolts and applying new sealing elements. These interventions are intended to stabilize the building ahead of a planned comprehensive reconstruction.
