JetSmart accounts seized by Chilean Migration Service over unpaid fines

Chile's National Migration Service (Sermig) has seized the current accounts of the airline JetSmart to collect unpaid fines totaling more than 781 million pesos ($781,422,879). The seizure follows 42 accumulated fines issued between 2023 and 2025 for violations of migration regulations.

The infractions, which were originally reported by the Investigations Police (PDI), involve transporting foreign passengers to Chile without the required legal documentation and failing to provide mandatory passenger lists to authorities. Sermig Director Frank Sauerbaum stated that the judicial measure was taken after the company's legal defenses failed to refute the irregularities and after the fines remained unpaid for an extended period.

Sermig has indicated it will maintain rigorous oversight of commercial airlines to ensure compliance with the Migration Law (Law 21,325). The agency is also conducting training sessions for airline representatives to reinforce document control and clarify recent regulatory changes regarding passenger entry.
