JetSmart migration regulation violations in Chile

Overview

Chile’s National Migration Service (Sermig) seized the bank accounts of the airline JetSmart to collect unpaid fines totaling over 781 million Chilean pesos (approximately $838,419 USD).

The sanctions stem from 42 accumulated infractions reported by the Investigations Police (PDI) between 2023 and 2025. These violations involved transporting foreign passengers to Chile without required legal documentation and failing to provide mandatory passenger lists to authorities.

Sermig officials stated the judicial measure was taken after the company’s legal defenses failed to refute the irregularities. In response to these issues, the agency is implementing training programs for airlines to improve the verification of passenger documentation and migratory status.
