JetSmart accounts seized in Chile over migration fines
The Chilean National Migration Service (Sermig) has seized the current accounts of the airline JetSmart following the accumulation of 42 fines for violating migration regulations. The total amount of the sanctions is approximately $781,422,879 Chilean pesos (roughly $838,419 USD).
The penalties stem from procedures initiated between 2023 and 2025, primarily involving the transport of foreign passengers who did not meet the necessary entry requirements for Chile. Additionally, the fines include failures related to the submission of passenger lists. These infractions were reported by the Investigative Police (PDI).
Sermig stated that the measure aims to strengthen controls and prevent airlines from transporting individuals who do not meet established entry conditions. In response to these issues, the agency has begun developing training programs for airlines operating in Chile to improve the verification of passenger documentation and migratory status prior to boarding.
