Jewish Academy opens in Frankfurt

The Jewish Academy is officially opening in Frankfurt, marking the first supra-regional, non-university Jewish educational institution in Germany since the Holocaust. The opening ceremony is expected to include German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Hessian Prime Minister Boris Rhein.

According to Josef Schuster, President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, the institution aims to make the Jewish voice more audible regarding broader societal issues. The academy was envisioned by former Central Council President Dieter Graumann and advanced by Schuster.

Construction of the facility faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, increased security requirements, and labor shortages. While the building is now complete, the academy plans to roll out its full educational programming gradually, with a projected start in the spring of 2027.
