Jewish Academy opens in Frankfurt as response to antisemitism

The Jewish Academy has officially opened in Frankfurt am Main, marking a significant milestone for Jewish life in Germany. Located in the Fischerfeldviertel near the Frankfurt Messe, the institution consists of a new building and an old city villa. The project was spearheaded by the Central Council of Jews in Germany.

High-ranking officials, including German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Frankfurt Mayor Mike Josef, attended the opening ceremony. President Steinmeier described the academy as a milestone and a sign of Jewish self-confidence. The academy aims to serve as a center for education, research, and discourse to combat rising antisemitism, which has seen a massive increase in incidents since October 7, 2023.

The construction of the academy was funded by the German federal government, the state of Hessen, the city of Frankfurt, and the Central Council of Jews in Germany, with total costs amounting to approximately 40 million euros.
