Jharkhand government cancels 44 recruitment exams amid irregularity probes

The Jharkhand government has cancelled 44 recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) since 2014. This decision follows prolonged student protests and investigations by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Special Investigation Team (SIT) into allegations of paper leaks and widespread irregularities.

The cancellations affect numerous high-profile administrative, technical, and judicial positions, including drug inspectors, assistant professors, deputy collectors, civil judges, and forest range officers. Additionally, the government has scrapped all examinations and results managed by the outsourced agency TSR Data Processing Private Limited (TDPL).

To address systemic issues, the state has announced several reforms: requesting the High Court to establish a fast-track court for recruitment misconduct cases, forming an internal vigilance cell within the JPSC and JSSC, and appointing a high-level committee led by IAS officer Amitabh Kaushal to recommend structural improvements within two months. While student protesters have expressed relief, the decision has sparked counter-protests from thousands of previously selected candidates who fear losing their jobs and livelihoods.
