Jiangxi mudslides leave one dead and 11 missing

Severe mudslides and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall from Typhoon Shadel have caused significant damage in Suichuan County, Ji'an City, Jiangxi Province. On September 5, at approximately 4:00 a.m., a mudslide in Mingkeng Village, Gaoping Town, damaged 12 houses, eight of which were completely destroyed.

Authorities report that three people have been rescued; however, one person is confirmed dead and 11 others remain missing. The extreme weather has led to widespread flooding, causing large-scale power outages, water shortages, and loss of communication services in affected areas. Additionally, the Yutian Bridge in Yutian Town collapsed due to strong floodwaters, though officials stated the bridge had been closed beforehand, preventing casualties from the collapse.

Prior to the mudslide, heavy rains had already affected over 120,000 people in Jiangxi Province. Hydrological monitoring centers have issued orange flood warnings for the region as river levels continue to rise.
