Jim Ross to undergo brain surgery amid AEW contract expiration
Veteran wrestling broadcaster Jim Ross has announced that he is scheduled to undergo brain surgery to have a shunt inserted. The procedure is set to take place on Wednesday, August 12, in Norman, Oklahoma.
Ross, 74, revealed the news on his podcast, *Grilling JR*, noting that the surgery aims to alleviate ongoing health challenges, including issues with memory and balance. He expressed relief that medical professionals expect his hospital stay to last only about one day.
The timing of the surgery coincides with uncertainty regarding his professional future, as his contract with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) is set to expire this month. While Ross stated he does not want his broadcasting career to end, he noted that he would not harbor resentment if AEW owner Tony Khan chooses not to renew his deal. Ross expressed a desire for a "good, clean ending" to his career rather than an abrupt departure.
