Jiquilpan establishes Michoacán’s first autonomous disability institute

During the presentation of the second government report by Mayor Gerardo Olloqui Estrada, local deputy Octavio Ocampo highlighted the establishment of the Institute for Disability of Jiquilpan (INDIS). This institution makes Jiquilpan the first municipality in the state of Michoacán to possess its own disability institute with administrative and financial autonomy.

Ocampo noted that the initiative follows a June 2025 legislative proposal to mandate municipal disability institutes across the state. The INDIS is designed to serve more than 100 families, providing a variety of services beyond standard rehabilitation through its independent management structure.
